WARNING ISSUED OVER 'POISONOUS PARSNIPS' ON AYRSHIRE BEACHES
We are urging the public to remain vigilant following reports of a poisonous plant being washed up on local beaches.
Several members of the public have found what they believe to be Hemlock water dropwort, also known as poisonous parsnip, on beaches in Irvine and in Largs over the weekend.
The poisonous plant can prove lethal if ingested by animals and is also dangerous to humans as it can leave bad burns if contact is made with the skin. It can often be found in shallow waters and is most toxic during late winter and early spring time.
If you find any suspicious plants or vegetation on the beach please do not touch it or allow your kids or pets to go near it.
The public are being advised to contact North Ayrshire Council to pass on any information regarding the items and its exact location to allow the Council's Streetscene Team to investigate and take any required action.
