Mr and Mrs Ferguson were delighted to show visitors from the Council around their beautiful new home at Hillhead Crescent in Kilmarnock recently.
Their home is part of the Council’s stunning new development which consists of a mix of 32 homes including two two-bedroom homes for wheelchair users with integral sheltered car ports, five two-bedroom bungalows for older people, seven three-bedroom family homes, 13 two-bedroom family homes and four four-bedroom townhouses.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council and local member for Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse was joined by Councillor Eòghann MacColl, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities and Councillor Tom Cook, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Equalities and local member at Hillhead Crescent to view the new development.
Councillor Reid presented flowers to Mrs Ferguson as a home warming gift.
He said: “The development at Hillhead Crescent is very impressive.
It combines a range of homes which meet the needs of a variety of tenants including larger families, older people and wheelchair users.
The homes are built in three blocks and designed to curve round the road in a crescent which means that the gardens to the rear are very quiet and private.
“It was great to meet Mr and Mrs Ferguson and to see the difference their new home has made to their lives.”
Mrs Ferguson said: “Our new home is wonderful; it has changed both of our lives for the better. In our old home my husband was confined to just one room but now we are living in a specially adapted home he is able to move easily around from room to room in his wheelchair. In the summer he will be able to sit in the garden as it is easily accessible from the kitchen thanks to the larger doors which are designed to fit his wheelchair.”
Councillor MacColl said: “This iconic crescent forms part of the Council’s Strategic Local Programme 2012/15 to deliver 197 new homes in town centres across East Ayrshire.
“Funding of £1.472m from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme was secured by the Council to support the build which is close to other recently completed new Council homes at Lilyhill Gardens and Old Kirk Place. The landscape in the area is changing completely thanks to our new developments and the Ayrshire College development which will also act as a catalyst for change.”
The development was built by CBC and was project managed by Property and Facilities Management.
