Woman killed after A77 crash

FATAL ROAD CRASH – A77, NEAR GIRVAN A 67 year-old woman has died following a road crash on the A77 in Girvan on Thursday 23 November 2017.

Around 1225 hours on Thursday 23 November 2017, a Mercedes large goods vehicle was being driven southbound on the A77 near to Girvan when it was involved in a collision with a Skoda Yeti being driven by a 67 year-old woman. Emergency services attended however the 67 year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital and released a short time later. A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. Sergeant Cat Gibbons from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irvine Police Office said: “Extensive enquiries are continuing today into the cause of the crash. At this time, I would appeal to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, to come forward. I would also like to hear from anyone who was driving on this road between Turnberry and Girvan shortly before the crash happened, who may have seen the vehicles involved, to contact us, as they may have information that will help this enquiry.”
