Ayrshire Cancer Support has officially opened the doors of its newly refurbished cancer support centre in Ayr, welcoming the public to its purpose-built facility from Monday, 19 May.

The opening marks the culmination of the charity’s long-running ‘Make it Happen’ campaign, which began in 2020. The initiative was launched in response to a growing need for a comprehensive cancer support facility in Ayr, offering the same high standard of services as Ayrshire Cancer Support’s Kilmarnock Centre with additional features tailored for children and young people.

Recognising the lack of free specialist services for young people affected by cancer in the local area, the charity made the bold decision to sell its previous base on Wellington Square and begin fundraising for a new, dedicated centre.

The resulting facility, located at 7 Prestwick Road, is designed to serve children, young people, and adults with a range of vital support services.

During the renovation period, core services were temporarily relocated to the Kyle Chemotherapy Unit at Ailsa Campus. These services, alongside a full schedule of workshops, courses, and group sessions, have now returned to the Ayr location.

The newly reopened Ayr Centre features a variety of specialised spaces, including dedicated rooms for counselling, complementary therapies, and group support sessions.

Unique to this location are bespoke facilities for younger service users, such as a fully equipped children’s sensory garden and child-friendly therapeutic equipment.

The centre also includes a welcoming drop-in space, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, where anyone affected by cancer can find comfort, connection, and care.

A representative at Ayrshire Cancer Support expressed gratitude to the community and supporters who helped make the project a reality:

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported and contributed to this project over the years – without whom the Ayr Centre would not have been possible. Everyone who has donated, become a Founding Sponsor, held a fundraising event, partnered with us, signed up to become a regular giver or who has given a grant towards our project has played a very important part in making this centre a reality.”

An official Open Day event will be announced soon, giving the public an opportunity to visit the centre, explore its facilities, and learn more about the services offered.

Updates will be shared via Ayrshire Cancer Support’s social media channels.
