Ayrshire Hospice Announces Launch of First Children’s Book ‘A Bear Called AH!’

Ayrshire Hospice has announced the upcoming launch of its very first book, A Bear Called AH!, with all proceeds going towards supporting patients and families across Ayrshire and Arran.

The book has been written by local writer Lorraine Johnston and features illustrations created by 12 Ayrshire artists, known collectively as Team Bear. Each artist donated their time, talent and artwork to the project in support of the hospice.

Team Bear is made up of Jacqueline Orr, Margaret Johnston, Peter Foyle, Ewan McClure, Lewis Mackenzie, Yvonne Tailor, Madhumati Manda, Kath Pender, Vanessa Lawrence, Jan Ferguson, Lynn Howarth and Paul Kennedy, who completed the front cover and final page of the story.

A Bear Called AH! tells the story of Alex, who comes home from school to find a bear wearing a label with his initials on it. At first, Alex wonders whether he is too old to have a bear, but he soon discovers the many bears around him, the people who own and love them, and the surprising story behind each one.

The heartwarming story asks whether Alex will give his bear away, or whether he will come to realise that you are never too old to have a bear.

The book is set to launch soon, with Ayrshire Hospice encouraging supporters to watch out for further details.

A spokesperson said the project is a celebration of storytelling, creativity and community spirit, while also helping raise vital funds for the hospice’s work across Ayrshire and Arran.

With local writing, locally gifted artwork and a message for readers of all ages, A Bear Called AH! is expected to be a special addition to the hospice’s fundraising efforts.

After all, you are never too old for a good story.
