Man charged after death of woman in Newmilns

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the death of a woman in Ayrshire.

Police were called around 12.20pm on Tuesday, 23 September, to a property in the Newmilns area after reports of an injured woman.

The woman has now been formally identified as 47-year-old Michelle Thomson, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The man is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday, 25 September.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police Scotland say enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.
