There was yet another sell-out crowd at Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall for the 2016 showpiece Instrumental Music Service Gala Concert.

The popular annual concert features star performances by talented young musicians from schools across East Ayrshire.
This year over 400 pupils took part and the repertoire was as varied as it was challenging with performances from Primary Choirs, Concert Bands, Vocal Groups, a massed primary wind band of over 100 young musicians, a Steel Pan Orchestra and String Ensembles and a primary Guitar Ensemble.
It’s been a busy year for the schools music service, with successful concerts at the Spring Spectacular (with over 250 talented young musicians taking part), a choral partnership with the Military Wives Choir, working with Sir James Macmillan at the Cumnock Tryst and the recent inaugural concert by the new Kilmarnock Schools Pipe Band.
Councillor Stephanie Primrose, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning said: “The 2016 Schools Gala Concert was an evening’s entertainment that has again surpassed itself in truly offering something for everyone.
“The range and quality of music was impressive and I’m delighted we continue to support the development of young people’s musical talents.
“It’s amazing and very gratifying that East Ayrshire boasts so many gifted young people, actively engaged in a cultural and leisure activity they so clearly love – and one that gives so many others just as much pleasure and enjoyment.”
